I had a discussion with an intelligent friend who still thinks we have a Free Press , that holds our governments to account. I asked why is the UK arresting Journalists , if we have a Free Press ? “it’s because they are supporting terrorists…you can’t make this S—t up…” People are so easily duped ..

Once you see the lying and manipulation you can't unsee it. I'm disgusted by it and do my best to spend my money elsewhere. Long live independant journalism! That coupled with my own common sense and knowledge is how I make my decisions in life.

I like supporting local, small, independant book stores. If they don't have what I'm looking for I ask them to order it for me.

Yes it's a tangled web of deceit. It stuns me how deep and entrenched the media control is.

I got tired of watching TV many years ago because it seemed to be getting more biased and less relevant. You had to watch the ridiculous commercials in order to see your favorite shows, or find some way to mute and delete them. But now it's a whole new level of control and deceit.

But commercials aren't just annoying ads. They're subtle manipulation and psychological ploys to sway a captive audience. The companies paid a lot for that privilege and it seemed to be enough back then. But now it's expanded to paying for total control of news, opinion, and most media sources of information.

It's not benign as we witnessed during the covid scam. It's also amplified now with AI to make it even more deviously convincing. It led to the false narrative that convinced millions to "trust the science" and inject themselves with a dangerous bioweapon.

It's become a tool of the globalists and billionaires who saw the immense power they could wield

to further their sinister goals.

It needs to be curtailed somehow so I guess it's up to us to reject it.

The amount of research that has gone into figuring out our emotional triggers and how to manipulate and persuade us to buy things is truly staggering. If only we could bottle that energy to cure a disease or something!

It's such a paradox how money drives people to betray their instincts and humanity. The promise of wealth and influence trumps our better judgement it appears. It's embedded in our culture and reinforced daily. Does it equate to happiness, all that money, all the things you can buy if you follow the rules... Is it what we really need or is it the great deception we're told to keep us in line?

I like a lot of the things money can buy but the system is broken. It could destroy our civilization if not used responsibly. We're seeing the consequences of unchecked growth and wealth accumulation like never before.

At some point we'll have to address this issue or maybe we'll have no choice when it all comes tumbling down.

Do you have any alternatives to Amazon for books? Thriftbooks doesn't have a lot of the indie stuff written by substackers, Barnes and noble is a 4-7 dollar mark up and the selection is laughable. Not sure if there are any alternatives? otherwise I've taken steps to do a lot of what you've recommend and It's a good list

A kobo e reader along with annas archive is my go to. Ditched amazon 5 years ago. Your local library is another great source. You can aldo loan e books through something called overdrive or libby.

Have you tried Powell's (https://www.powells.com)? Or Bookshop.org (https://bookshop.org)? And if you're lucky enough to have a local mom-and-pop bookstore near you, please support them. As @kyra says, if they don't have what you're looking for, you can ask them to order it.
