This club is not good, and I do not dismiss it. I only point out that the rich are always getting together in exclusive groups, and have for a few centuries now. I have a great great grandfather who had his own rail car in the 1880's and he was a 'Mason'. He made a fortune by today's standards, gambled it away, retired to a retirement home run by the Mason's. Escaped to make a new fortune and put my grandmother, his granddaughter through college, and he lived to be 107. In my own life I have worked close enough to the rich to know they live in exclusive bubbles. But despite all their exclusive clubs the rich can be beat at their own game as they are too lazy to really be smart. All people have to do is organize. It is just rich people utilizing the access that their money has bought them by contributing to the politicians.
$16K/head doesn't even sound that extravagant to me considering the venues and the security needs for the people who are attending. I have no doubt that if it were openly planned, they would attract droves of protestors along with the risk of Luigi Mangione types.
My only hope is that the presenters are actually giving them good information. I don't have this silly idea that these people in positions of power in companies have some innate superiority. I have personally had to sit down and explain to the CEO of a major company how to access his email. I am not knocking him for it as I am confident that he knew a lot more about running a company than I did. In fact, he was quite gracious and appreciative.
I personally don't have a problem with people being rich. We need people with that drive and ambition who are willing to live in their golden cages and make things work. Personally, I don't have that kind of drive. Once I got enough to sustain myself, I bailed out of the workforce. I have no desire to give up that much of myself.
The point we were trying to make, and we said it in the story, is not that rich people are getting together for a meeting. That's... *yawn*. The point is that they're focusing on issues that most average people are completely ignoring. They made the AIs that are going to displace people, they regulate the energy industries that control whether or not we have nuclear power, they are leading things towards WWIII. And they're getting together to talk about the tough questions. While everyone else is watching Spielberg movies and shopping at Walmart.
People won't wake up. Isn't there a movie line where the character says; "You can't handle the truth!" (Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men.) Sadly, this is true. People want to just live their lives and not dwell on the dystopian future that will hit any day now, already has for many people. Most people can't change the way they see the world and themselves in it. It does hurt and is very disorienting to go through the realization that this system will not continue as is, I know, I went through that awareness.
Yes, it certainly does hurt... We're with you on that. And in many ways, we don't wish that on the average person who is just trying to get through the day. BUT... not acknowledging the elephant in the room doesn't mean it's not there!
Great. Another gathering of self-important, psychopathic control freaks is all the world needs. It seems that most people are sleepwalking. Normalcy bias is a very powerful thing. As long as they can still indulge most of their creature comforts, even though the cost continues to rise, there is the illusion that things aren't so bad, and that people like us are just "conspiracy theorists" and paranoid preppers.
Some will never wake up. They don't want to see the truth, its too ugly. They want to stay in their little comfortable bubble. What percentage of people are willing to see and face the truth? I don't know. Where I live is heavily democratic and I don't see evidence of their bubble cracking.
