Yep - just look at our Presidential TACO Clown. All he does is try to bully the world into doing anything he decides - even if he flips-flops on a regular basis. The World recognizes it and also recognizes the America Empire and its US$/Swift System is sinking into the muck. Coercion works until it doesn't - and worked has left town.
Coercion is the entire reason we have government. It is the threat of doing something in retaliation if people do not behave properly. There are a lot of people who will abuse the freedoms allowed. (A big part of why we have the largest prison population in the world.)
The problem isn't coercion. The problem is people abusing the power of the government to use it when it doesn't come from a popular mandate. It is just corruption, plain and simple. People want to inflict their personal values and judgement on others, just because they have the power to do so.
That is why these people complain about populism when it is the very foundation of the government we have built. The whole "government by and for the people" thing bothers them when the people don't want what they want. They want to set up some "qualifications" for taking control of things but only when they get to choose whose qualifications are valid. Specifically, someone is only qualified by the merit that they will sit down and shut up and do what they are told to do.
It is done through the manipulation of language. Control the language and you can control what people think. Someone illegally entering the country is just an "immigrant." Abortion is "Healthcare." Some people paying more in taxes than someone else is "paying their fair share." "The Rich" are anyone who has more than you think that they should have. Someone doing what they don't want them to do is being "selfish and greedy." They believe that their rights are more important than anyone else's rights. Their opinion is the one one that counts. If you don't agree with them, you just are not smart enough to know what is right.
Coercion is little more than bullying and eventually someone stands up to the bully and reveals their true nature.
On a national level where billions of dollars are available it isn’t hard to reveal the true nature as just greed………..but, and there is the rub, we have to be willing to open our eyes and look, so many do not want to open that door out of fear of what they may find out.
“It is easier to be fooled than to admit you have been fooled”

When I hear the phrase "for the greater good" I'm immediately distrustful of what is being put forth.
Utilitarian Utopianism fronting for a brave new world under the boot of the globalist cabal-so inspiring 😆
Good instinct!
